“Geographically Weighted Regression Animation”
This video illustrates one statistical method that can be used to estimate site-specific yield response to input application rates. The video shows three panels. The left-hand panel shows a bright green point moving across a field trial grid which has different application rates assigned to different rectangular “plots” in a “checkerboard” field trial. The center panel shows how a scatterplot of (Nitrogen Rate, Yield) points changes as the geographic neighborhood of the green point changes. Dark scatterplot points are near to the green point, and lighter scatterplot points come from observations farther away from the green point. the darker points are weighted “more heavily” in the statistical procedures that estimate the yield response curve. The dotted line in the center panel shows how yield responds to the N rate in the neighborhood of the green point.
